The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said they are investigating the water-related death of a 72-year-old visitor from Illinois, USA, on April 10.

According to the RCIPS, shortly after 11:30 am on April 10, emergency services responded to a report of a person in distress in the ocean in the vicinity of Cemetery Beach, West Bay.

When police arrived on the scene, they observed EMS and Fire conducting CPR on a man lying on the beach.

It was reported that the man was snorkelling with friends when they decided to return to shore, and he got into distress on the way in.  Persons on the beach helped bring the man ashore and conducted CPR before the emergency services arrived and took over.

The man was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.

Condolences go out to the family of the deceased man.
