Authorities in Honduras reported that a 63-year-old man from Olancho was arrested for threatening his sister with violence, stealing her vehicle and robbing her of over $60,000 last week.
The victim explained that, on the morning of Friday, April 19, the elderly man went to his sister’s home and “told her that she had to share the inheritance that her late husband had left her, who died a few days ago.”
Allegedly, “the man took a broom and tried to hit her and kept repeating that she had to share, then he went to bring a firearm that was the property of the deceased and also told her to give him the documentation for it, and she answered him that she didn’t know anything.”
The man then forced her to go to the bank, withdraw $60,654 and deposit it into his account.
Reportedly, he told his sister that “if she didn’t do it, he would kill her or her granddaughter.”
After she made the transfer, he stole her Ford Pick-Up Type vehicle and left her in the street alone.
The woman reported the incident to the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI), who arrested the man in the San Francisco neighbourhood. The DPI confiscated one Ford Ranger and a firearm previously mentioned by the victim.
Commenting on the arrest, the DPI said it “reiterates its commitment to continue working hard to guarantee the security and well-being of the Honduran population, as well as to prevent and combat criminal acts and that those responsible for committing these types of crimes are brought before the law.”
