VIDE Says Public Schools Will Open on Regular Schedule Monday Despite Weather Concerns
The V.I. Department of Education announced Monday morning that public schools across the territory will open on their regular schedule today, April 13, following a 6:00 a.m. weather briefing and update from the National Weather Service.
While the department said the latest information supports normal operations at this time, it cautioned that weather conditions remain unpredictable and that operational changes could still occur during the day. Officials said weather will continue to be closely monitored and updates will be issued as needed.
In its updated public notice, VIDE said that after reviewing the latest weather update from the National Weather Service, it determined that all public schools can open for normal operations on Monday, April 13, 2026.
The department said it has been closely monitoring weather conditions affecting the territory and, based on the latest updates and recommendations, decided that public schools can proceed on their normal schedule.
At the same time, VIDE warned that weather patterns and shifts can occur throughout the day and said it will remain vigilant in the event operational changes become necessary.
The department advised the public to exercise caution during travel, remain mindful of localized weather conditions, and follow official platforms for accurate information as updates are issued.
