Belize athletes compete at Central American and Caribbean Games

BELIZE CITY, Mon. July 20, 2026
Belizean athletes will compete in 4 disciplines at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from July24 – August 8, and the Belize Olympic & Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA) introduced a part of the team at Ned Pitts Olympic House at the Marion Jones Sports Complex on Saturday morning, July 18.
In Cycling, Derrick Chavarria and Jyven Gonzalez will compete in the road race, and Chavarria in the individual time trial.
In Beach Volleyball, national champions Nelissa Ramirez and Clara Sabal will compete in the female tournament, while Central American gold medalists Francis Hauze and Ernest Broaster, Jr. will compete in the men’s tournament.
Trent Hardwick will compete in the sailing competition, and the largest team is basketball, led by Douglas Langford and Josiah Mosley. The roster includes NEBL champions Michael Caceres and Jason Orosco, as well as Kelvin Cumberbatch, Tevaughn Dawson, Wilford Dawson, Elijah Favela, Marlon Henry, Jr., Devin Moody, Ian Parham and Damion Vernon.
Sharon Hardwick will be Chef de Mission, along with cycling official Sheena Castillo, basketball coaches Bernie Tarr, Stephen “Muerte” Williams and Karimi Lambert, volleyball coach Lawrence Bennett and sailing official Keith Hardwick.
Belizean athletes are also competing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 – August 2, with Nyasha Harris in 100m and 200m, Brooklyn Little in long jump, and Brandon Adolphus in 800m and the mile. Two-time Cross Country champion Justin Williams will compete in 10km track cycling scratch elimination, and swimmer Davia Richardson will compete in 50m and 100m butterfly, and 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle.
Minister of Sports Hon. Anthony Mahler, and Minister of State Hon. Devin Daly presented a $50,000 cheque to the BOCGA’s Herman Pastor to support the athletes’ participation in Santo Domingo.
