Waste Management Delays Trash Collection in Williams Delight West and Whim East Due to Staff Shortage
Residents of Williams Delight West and Whim East on St. Croix are being advised to expect a delay in trash collection after the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority said an unexpected staff shortage disrupted service on Thursday.
VIWMA said collection in the affected neighborhoods is now scheduled to be completed by Saturday, May 2, and is urging residents to keep waste properly secured in the meantime or use the nearest bin site if needed.
In its notice, VIWMA said the delay affects only Williams Delight West and Whim East.
The authority said all missed collections will still be serviced as scheduled once crews complete the adjusted routes. Until collection occurs, residents are being encouraged to keep their garbage properly secured.
VIWMA also said residents in the affected areas may transport household waste to the nearest bin site. The authority asked that all garbage be properly secured before transport to help prevent littering and maintain neighborhood cleanliness.
The agency said it appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as crews work to finish all routes as quickly and safely as possible. For more information, VIWMA directed residents to contact [email protected] or [email protected], or call 340-715-9100 for St. Thomas or 340-712-4962 for St. Croix.
