The police have identified two suspects from Belize City, whom they are seeking in their investigation of the cold-blooded murder of pregnant mother Jane Urbina, who was gunned down while waiting at a bus stop in Hattieville for a westbound bus around 2:50 last Saturday afternoon, June 20.
Jane Urbina and her mother were enroute to San Ignacio after visiting her brother, Police Constable Lionel Rodolfo Urbina, 22, at the Belize Central Prison, when they were ambushed by two men who arrived on a motorcycle. One gunman dismounted and fired several shots at Urbina, wounding her in the abdomen. The killer then remounted the motorcycle, which his companion then drove towards Belize City.

Emergency responders transported Urbina to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The doctors were unable to save her unborn child.
Investigators recovered several 9mm expended shell casings at the scene, and recorded an eyewitness account from the victim’s mother, who witnessed her daughter’s execution, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero when he briefed the media on Monday morning. He said the police are quite certain that Jane was the intended target, as the gunman approached her and shot her alone; he did not target the mother. The fact that the killers were able to accost the victim at the bus stop, indicated that they had prior knowledge of her movements and location, Romero added.
The driver of a passing vehicle, upon witnessing the shooting, pursued the two gunmen and was able to force their motorcycle off the road, but the two fugitives escaped into the bushes.
PC Urbina, the victim’s brother, is on remand at the Belize Central Prison, after he was charged in January this year for the murder of Kevin Matthew Depaz, 19, who was stabbed to death in an altercation outside a nightclub on Caye Caulker, where Urbina was working as a security guard, on June 30, 2025. Urbina is also charged with 2 counts of attempted murder in connection with the wounding of Depaz’s friends, Julian Canul, 18, and Newsean Allen, 25, who were also injured in the altercation.
ACP Romero admitted that PC Urbina was also a suspect in a shooting which had occurred in Hattieville, and they are considering that angle as well in their investigation of a possible motive for Jane’s murder.
