Police hold Medal, Awards and Promotion Ceremony
BELMOPAN, Thurs. June 18, 2026
As part of this year’s Police Week celebrations, the Belize Police Department on June 17 hosted its annual Medal, Awards and Promotion Ceremony at the National Police Training Academy in Belmopan, recognizing hundreds of officers for their dedication, service, and contributions to public safety.
A total of 326 officers were honored with Long Service—First and Second Class, Meritorious Service, and Distinguished Service awards. The ceremony also recognized officers who earned promotions within the department’s ranks.
The event formed part of Police Week 2026, which began on Sunday, June 14, under the theme, “Honouring Our Call, Strengthening Our Community.” Throughout the week, the department has been participating in a variety of community outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening relationships between police officers and the communities they serve.
The officers recognized during the ceremony represent men and women who work daily to address social challenges, respond to incidents of violence, investigate crimes, conduct interdiction operations, prosecute cases, and engage with communities across the country.
Commissioner of Police, Dr. Richard Rosado described the ceremony as one of the highlights of the week’s activities, and noted that it marked the department’s first awards ceremony since 2022. “This is one of our highlights today. We had the last medal and awards ceremony in 2022. I am pleased to recognize our dedicated officers for their years of service, commitment, and excellence in service. It is truly a good feeling to recognize them as the Commissioner of Police,” Rosado said.
Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Hon. Oscar Mira also commended the award recipients, acknowledging the sacrifices and challenges that come with police work. “This is Police Week, and we honor the police officers who have been beyond what is the call of duty. Not an easy job to do, and a very unforgiving job at that. Today we honor them and we thank them very much for the service they have provided to our country,” Mira said.
Police Week celebrations continue across Belize with a series of activities focused on recognizing the contributions of law enforcement officers while fostering stronger community partnerships.
