BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 18, 2026

Over the past 22 years, former Police Corporal Elmer Nah, 42, seemed to be the “Teflon cop” in that he was accused of numerous crimes, but the charges never seemed to stick. On May 29, justice finally seemed to have caught up with Nah, when he was found guilty of the triple murder of the Ramnarace brothers, David and Jon, and of Jon’s wife Vivian Belisle Ramnarace, who were shot to death outside their family home on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2022.

Yemi Alberto, David’s girlfriend, survived the shooting, for which Nah was also charged with attempted murder and convicted.

Justice Nigel Pilgrim was to have handed down Nah’s sentence in the Belize High Court on Thursday, June 18, but the court session was adjourned when Pilgrim announced that he needed more time to consider all submissions made before the court, and that he would reserve his decision until Friday morning.

Nah must wait until 9 o’clock Friday to learn his fate. Both the prosecution and the Ramnarace family have urged the court to sentence Nah to life in prison. They said the seriousness of his crimes, and the way the murders had devastated the Ramnarace family deserved the maximum penalty the law can impose.

The most damning evidence against Nah was Vivian Ramnarace’s hospital bed statement, as she had initially survived the shooting but succumbed to her injuries two weeks later. Pilgrim found her account to be credible and reliable, noting that video evidence closely matched her version of events, which influenced his guilty verdict.
