On Thursday, March 14, 2024, Caymanian environmentalist Dejea Lyons received the prestigious Legacy Award at the Science Museum for outstanding leadership and environmental work. HRH The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex,  honoured Dejea and the other recipients.

Regarding the honourees, Dejea was one of twenty young people honoured at this year’s event, which, according to https://diana-award.org.uk/, is the “start of The Diana Award’s 25th Anniversary year – a charity set up in memory of Diana, the late Princess of Wales and her belief that young people have the power to change the world.”

Dejea’s contributions include domestic accomplishments in the Cayman Islands as part of youth-led organisations like Protect Our Future, which worked together with Plastic Free Cayman and other groups to raise awareness of the dangers caused to the environment by single-use plastics. In addition, Dejea has worked hard with these groups to help keep Cayman’s beaches clean, removing over 25 tonnes of garbage from shorelines over the years.

With the right support, Dejea and her young colleagues will continue to highlight important issues and provide resolutions for future generations.
