Public officers celebrated for 25 years of service to the nation
BELMOPAN, Mon. June 29, 2026
A lifetime of commitment, sacrifice, and public service was celebrated last week, as 173 public officers from across Belize were recognized for offering 25 years of service to the nation of Belize.
The officers were honored during the 2026 Public Service Awards Ceremony, one of the signature events marking Public Service Week, where government officials, colleagues, family members, and friends gathered to pay tribute to individuals whose careers have helped shape and strengthen Belize’s public institutions over the past quarter century. The ceremony celebrated public servants representing ministries and departments across the country, recognizing their unwavering dedication to delivering essential services and supporting the daily functions of government through periods of growth, reform, and national challenges.
This year’s Public Service Week was observed under the theme, “Transform Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Inclusion, and Participation”. Awards were presented by Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam and Minister of Public Service and Disaster Risk Management, Hon. Henry Charles Usher, who commended the recipients for their years of faithful service and the lasting impact they have made on the lives of Belizeans.
Addressing the awardees, Minister Usher emphasized that the evening was about recognizing more than just years spent on the job. “Twenty-five years of showing up every day with a commitment to serve; 25 years of helping citizens navigate their challenges and aspirations; 25 years of contributing to the functioning of government institutions and the development of our country; 25 years of choosing service above self,” Usher said.
He noted that the ceremony served as an opportunity to acknowledge public officers whose contributions often go unnoticed, despite being essential to the country’s progress.
“This evening is about far more than the presentation of awards and certificates. It is about pausing to recognize those whose work often takes place quietly and without fanfare, yet whose contributions touch the lives of Belizeans every single day,” the minister added.
Throughout the evening, recipients were applauded for their professionalism, resilience, and institutional knowledge. The ceremony also served as a reminder of the indispensable role public officers play in implementing government policies and ensuring that public services continue to reach communities across the country.
