On Monday, February 19, authorities in Honduras confirmed that the National Directorate of Border Police Services seized 10 million units of smuggled cigarettes in Puerto Cortés. The cigarettes, worth 40 million lempiras in the Honduran market, were smuggled from Kingston, Jamaica, to San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

The authorities explained that, upon inspection, it was discovered that there was inadequate documentation for the shipment, which meant that it did not comply with established rules and regulations.

Regarding the next steps, authorities in Honduras said, “The seized product will be made available to the corresponding authorities to continue with the due legal process.”

They added:

The Border Police continues to carry out operational actions to counteract the crimes of smuggling, drug trafficking, weapons, among other crimes.

It is important to mention that this is one of the different seizures that have been made in the northern part of the country so far in 2024.
