ST. THOMAS — Early Monday morning, a structural fire in the Savan neighborhood was swiftly brought under control by the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS), according to a release issued.
At approximately 1:10 a.m., first responders arrived at the scene following a 911 call reporting a blaze in an abandoned residence.
Upon arrival, the responding units discovered the structure fully engulfed in flames. Suppression crews from multiple stations, including Hotel Company, Echo Company, and Tango Company, worked in unison to contain the fire. Their coordinated efforts ensured that the fire was under control within 30 minutes, preventing damage to nearby properties.
"We are relieved to report that no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire, and no injuries were sustained by civilians or responding personnel," stated VIFEMS officials. The incident was confined to the abandoned building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as VIFEMS works to determine its origin and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The agency reiterated the importance of reporting fire hazards and securing abandoned properties to prevent such occurrences in the future.
