With the summer holidays and another hurricane season approaching, residents were urged this week to renew their passports and other documents in a timely manner to prevent travel interruptions.
Registrar General Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro, who oversees the Civil Registry and Passport Office, said everyone should check the validity of their passports and submit applications well in advance before making definitive travel plans.
“The CRPO emphasises that applying for a passport involves a centralised process that incorporates printing carried out by His Majesty’s Passport Office in the United Kingdom since 2015,” she said, adding, “HMPO guidance states that passports can take up to 10 weeks to process. As such, by renewing passports early, individuals can ensure smooth and hassle-free travel.”
Passport processing also may vary depending on individual circumstances, and lost, stolen or first-time passports may need a longer processing time, according to the CRPO.
The office also reminded residents that they can renew their British overseas territory and British passports within nine months of expiration.
