Police Recover 450 Pounds Of Ganja After Search Of Premises Loop Cayman Islands

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said that yesterday, March 26, officers recovered approximately 450lbs of ganja from three men, ages 28 to 57, after a search of their premises.

Police explained that they were conducting enquiries in the vicinity of Seymour Drive, George Town when they detected the strong scent of ganja from an address in the area where several individual apartments are located. Officers searched the area and observed a man attempting to discard an item. The man was detained, and the item, a bag containing suspected ganja, was recovered.

The officers then conducted a search of his apartment under the Misuse of Drugs Act and recovered several other packages containing ganja.

The officers also recovered over CI 5,000 and over USD 800 in cash from his person.

The man, age 57, of George Town, was arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja, possession of ganja with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property. 

Officers conducted a further search to the rear of the man’s apartment and recovered additional packages containing ganja. Two other men at the location, ages 28 and 29 of Bodden Town, were arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja and possession of ganja with intent to supply. All three men remain in custody as investigations continue.
