Police Investigate Death of Woman Found Unresponsive in Anna’s Retreat

ST. THOMAS — Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found unresponsive Thursday evening at a residence in Anna’s Retreat, according to the V.I. Police Department.

VIPD said the 911 Call Center received a report at approximately 7:27 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, of an unresponsive female who was reported to have suffered a self-inflicted wound. Patrol officers and Emergency Medical Technicians were dispatched to the residence shortly thereafter.

Upon arrival, Emergency Medical Technicians examined the woman for vital signs and determined that she showed no signs of life, police said. The woman was later identified by next of kin as 53-year-old Angelique J. Dewindt.

Authorities said the cause of death has not yet been determined and remains pending the results of an autopsy.

The case is being handled by the VIPD's Major Crimes Unit, which continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the VIPD or the Criminal Investigation Unit’s Major Crimes Division. Tips may also be provided through Crime Stoppers.
