Police Hunt Suspect After Shooting Leaves Victim in Critical Condition, School Lockdown Implemented

ST. CROIX — A shooting incident at Lorraine Village on St. Croix has left a male victim in critical condition, according to reports from the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The incident took place on Wednesday around 11:46 a.m., when multiple gunshots were reported in Lorraine Village, accompanied by the sound of a woman screaming. The VIPD's ShotSpotter system detected three rounds fired. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and found a male victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital, where CPR was being administered.

As a result of the shooting, the V.I. Department of Education promptly placed nearby Eulalie Rivera K-8 School on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff. The VIPD conducted a inspection of the campus, and an "all clear" signal was given after confirming there was no threat to the school. The institution resumed its abbreviated schedule, with parents arriving to pick up their children.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the shooting at Lorraine Village remains ongoing, with the VIPD issuing an all-points bulletin (APB) for Kertis Tonge, who is considered armed and dangerous. Tonge is wanted in connection with the shooting that left a resident critically injured. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and immediately report any sightings or information related to Tonge's whereabouts. The VIPD continues to actively investigate the incident and seeks assistance from the community in apprehending the suspect.
