Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said today, March 28, 2024, that the SkyTrain at Miami International Airport’s Concourse D will partially reopen on Friday morning, March 29, after being closed since September 2023.

Sharing the news, the Mayor said:

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that the majority of our concourse D SkyTrain will open tomorrow morning.

Our teams have been working around the clock to bring SkyTrain back online as quickly as possible and starting tomorrow, you can ride in comfort between gates 20 and 60 in just a few minutes.

Regarding the reason for the initial closure of the SkyTrain, the Mayor noted that service was halted in September 2023 “after a routine inspection revealed structural concerns that required significant repairs.”

Concerning passenger experiences during this time, the Mayor said that she understood that the “decision may have caused inconvenience,“ however, it was necessary to take the SkyTrain out of service to ensure the safety and security of passengers.

The Mayor confirmed that work will continue on the remainder of the system with a view to fully open this summer.

In the meantime, the Mayor said, “We will continue to offer shuttle services between stations one and two.”

The Mayor also mentioned significant investments being made at Miami International.

She explained:

At the same time, we’re making record investments in modernising MIA with our $7 billion capital improvement programme and 1.7 billion in maintenance upgrades, while remaining laser focused on delivering key improvements throughout the airport, including modernising 616 elevators, escalators and moving walkways, and renovating 203 bathrooms and 126 passenger boarding bridges across the entire airport.

And to improve your customer experience at MIA, we’ve launched our IM MIa campaign, deploying lightning crew members to address last minute maintenance issues that affect our visitors and employees on a daily basis.

She concluded:

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this process and we hope that having the SkyTrain back on track will significantly enhance your next journey through MIA, making it smoother and more enjoyable than ever before.

We’ll see you on the Skytrain.
