Belize City police are seeking the shooter(s) responsible for the death of Barry Johnston, 33, of a George Street address in Belize City, who was shot multiple times at the corner of “F” and 7th Streets in Kings Park around 11:00 Monday night, September 7, and died at the scene.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith said investigators have established no motive for the attack, and are reviewing video footage from the Crime Fusion Center in the hopes of identifying the assailant(s), and the vehicle in which the shooter made his getaway on 6th Street.
Johnston was reportedly talking with two persons when he was shot, and one of his companions was also injured but survived and is listed as being in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. ASP Smith declined to identify the survivor, as he is a material witness in their investigation
Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like the firing of an automatic weapon. Smith acknowledged that Johnston was known to police, as he had previously been convicted of drug trafficking. A decade ago, Johnston had previously “walked” from an aggravated assault charge, for a shooting incident that happened in 2015.
