Man Hospitalized After New Year’s Day Shooting in Estate Contant
ST. THOMAS — Police are investigating a New Year’s Day shooting in Estate Contant that left one man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the VIPD.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, when the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report at approximately 3:42 a.m. of a male who had been shot in the Contant area. The victim was later transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.
Officers responded to the hospital and spoke with medical personnel, who advised that the victim sustained at least two gunshot wounds to his left leg, as well as additional gunshot wounds to his right arm and left femur, police said.
According to the victim’s statement to investigators, he had been sitting outside in the Contant area when four males approached him. Police said a verbal altercation followed, after which one of the individuals allegedly shot him. The victim declined to provide further details about the incident, including the identities of the individuals involved.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau has been assigned to investigate the shooting. Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the 911 Emergency Call Center or Detective E. Rijo of the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1-800-222-8477. The investigation remains ongoing.
