Amandala sports and the basketball fraternity mourn the untimely passing of a promising basketball talent, Antonio “Tonio” Flowers, 25, a tour guide of Rivas Estate, Dangriga Town, who died in a hail of lead near a school on Antelope Street Extension in Belize City around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 27.
Flowers won a William Dawson Sprite Basketball championship with the Hard Rock team, and more recently played with the EZ Investments Dangriga Dream Ballers in the 2025 season of the Belize Premier Basketball League.
Police investigators have yet to determine a motive for Flowers’ murder, and are seeking one suspect. Initial inquiries have so far revealed that Flowers was walking on Antelope Street, from the corner of Hercellet Moody Street towards Sister Mary Benedict Street, when a masked shooter, dressed entirely in black, approached him from behind and opened fire. Flowers was hit multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10:00 p.m. The shooter made good his escape toward Sister Mary Benedict Street.
