ST. THOMAS — V.I. Police Department offices on Thursday arrested Makea Grant, 26, and charged here with embezzlement and grand larceny, following an investigation led by the Economic Crime Unit. The arrest stems from allegations made by Home Depot, where Grant was previously employed.

The investigation began on January 26, 2024, after Home Depot filed a complaint alleging that Grant had facilitated the theft of merchandise by allowing numerous individuals to leave the store without paying for items. The total value of the unpaid merchandise surpassed four thousand dollars, prompting legal action against the former employee.

Grant was subsequently arrested and faced charges including embezzlement by clerks, agents, and employees, alongside grand larceny. Following her arrest, Grant’s bail was set at $35,000. Unable to secure bail, she was processed at the Richard N. Callwood Command and then remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.

Grant is scheduled for an Advise of Rights hearing on Friday, March 8 at the Superior Court, where the details of her case will be further examined.
