Edwardo Garcia Jr. Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges After Shooting at Girlfriend in Upper Love
ST. CROIX — A 55-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, after police said he fired several shots at a woman during an altercation at a residence in the Upper Love area.
According to the VIPD, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report at approximately 12:39 a.m. on January 2, 2026, of an argument between a male and a female at a home in Upper Love. Shortly after the call, the ShotSpotter system detected four gunshots fired at the same location.
Officers from the Patrol Division responded to the scene, where the complainant told them that Edwardo Garcia Jr. had fired shots at her. Garcia was taken into custody at the scene, police said.
A detective from the Criminal Investigation Bureau assigned to the case determined that the complainant had gone to her boyfriend’s residence to retrieve items she had forgotten. While there, she became involved in an argument with members of her boyfriend’s family. Police said the dispute escalated into a physical altercation.
Investigators reported that while the complainant was seated inside her vehicle, Garcia approached her holding a handgun and began firing shots in her direction. The gunfire struck the vehicle, according to police. Officers recovered four spent cartridge casings from the scene.
Garcia, 55, was transported to the Wilbur Francis Command Police Station, where he was booked and formally arrested. He was later transferred to the John A. Bell Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
Police said Garcia was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, carrying a firearm openly or concealed, first-degree reckless endangerment, and aiming or discharging a firearm. Bail was set at $100,000.
The investigation remains under the purview of the Virgin Islands Police Department.
