Residents of West Bay will have the opportunity to attend community crime prevention workshops on May 7 and 8, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Sir John A Cumber Primary School. Dr Sylvia Wilks and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service will host the workshops, which are supported by the Department of Children & Family Services, members of parliament, and community members.

The organisers acknowledged “The rapid social changes impacting our communities” and how they “have intensified the struggle for existence,” ultimately producing “low neighbourhood attachment and community disorganisation.”

Therefore, the workshops will address risk factors in the community, schools, and families and activate various sectors of the community “to create an asset-building culture and to contribute fully to young people’s healthy development.”

Regarding asset building, the organisers said, “The more assets a young person has, the more likely they are to thrive, and less likely to gravitate towards problem behaviours.”

To achieve their objectives, organisers will split the workshops in West Bay and across the Cayman Islands as follows:

Workshop 1: Everyone’s an Asset BuilderWorkshop 2: Sharing the Asset Message
