The Cayman Islands Athletic Association said in a press release yesterday, April 1, 2024, that Davonte Howell copped a bronze medal in a highly contested Under 20 Boys 200m to bring Caymans tally at the 51st Carifta Games Track and Field Championships at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. Georges, Grenada to 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals and an eighth-place finish in the medal tables.

Running out of a tight turn in lane 3, Howell was quick out of the blocks and rounded the corner and into the straight looking certain to win Cayman’s second gold medal of the Championships but was unable to overhaul the eventual winner from Jamaica and was nipped for the Silver by the athlete from Barbados whom he had narrowly beaten in the semi-finals race.

Both Howell and Jaiden Reid have now run the qualifying times for this year’s World Junior Championships, and it is anticipated that given the recent sub 11 seconds clocking by Alex Gordon, the Islands are poised to make a positive impression at these Championships as well.

The team will return home or to their respective school base on Wednesday.
