The Cayman Islands Athletics Association (“Cayman Athletics”) said in a press release dated March 31, 2024, that Brianna Smith, Delora Jonhson and Davonte Howell took to the field of play on day two of the CARIFTA Games at Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. Georges, Grenada.

According to Cayman Athletics, Brianna Smith, one of the country’s longest-serving female youth athletes, participated in a closely contested Under 20 Girls Shot Put.

Brianna produced her best throw on her fifth attempt (12.86m) to snag the Bronze Medal. A happier medal winner is harder to imagine.

Regarding Delora Johnson, Cayman Athletics said she is a budding athlete competing in her first CARIFTA Games.

Cayman Athletics noted that, based on her performance, Delora showed she has the qualities to make the grade. In a field of 18 athletes, she made it to the final eight and finished seventh with a leap of 5.42m. She is certainly an athlete for the future.

Lastly, Cayman Athletics pointed out that Davonte Howell has made it abundantly clear that he fully intends on being a double gold medal winner at these Championships as he handily won his 200m semi-finals in a time of 21.09. The Finals promises to be very interesting as he goes in with the fourth-fastest times.

With a team of six athletes representing track and field, the Cayman Islands has secured a full suite of medals at these Championships and lies in sixth position in the overall medals table at the end of Day 2.
