Police Investigate Fatal Shooting After Man Found Unresponsive at Christiansted Market

ST. CROIX — A man was found unresponsive early Saturday at the Christian Shan Hendricks Vegetable Market on Company Street in Christiansted, and police say he was later discovered to have suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. The investigation is now being handled by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, which is asking anyone in the Christiansted Town community with information to come forward.

According to the V.I. Police Department, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call at about 5:49 a.m. on May 2 from a Fire Department unit conducting a wash down at the Christian Shan Hendricks Vegetable Market. The caller reported a male showing no signs of life.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to the scene and discovered a Black male with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Police said the deceased had not yet been identified.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing to investigate the case and is asking anyone who has information or saw anything to call 911, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or the CIB at 340-778-2211.
