Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach announced Wednesday that the Office of the Tax Collector will implement a 15-business-day amnesty established under Act No. 9087, waiving interest and penalties on outstanding real property taxes for property owners who pay the full principal amount due, along with sewer fees, for each applicable tax year.

According to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, the amnesty period will begin on April 9, 2026, and end on May 4, 2026. During that time, interest and penalties will be waived on property taxes if the full principal amount due in property taxes and sewer fees is paid for a given tax year, beginning with the oldest outstanding balance first. If the full principal amount of taxes and sewer fees is received before the amnesty expires, the interest and penalties for the applicable tax year will be waived.

The release states that the waiver is being carried out pursuant to Act No. 9087, which establishes a 15-business-day period for waiving penalties and interest on outstanding property taxes.

Property owners who currently have active installment payment plans for delinquent property taxes must first contact the Office of the Tax Collector to cancel those plans before they can use the amnesty. The release states that a property owner may not have both an installment payment plan and the amnesty feature at the same time.

Property owners are encouraged to use the Citizen Access Portal to obtain tax status reports showing taxes, sewer fees, interest and penalties, or to contact the Office of the Tax Collector for additional information.
