Virgin Islands American Job Center to Host Career Training Expo Linking Residents to Free Job Pathways
The V.I. American Job Center, in partnership with Equus Workforce Solutions, will host a Career Training Expo on April 9 at the Windward Passage Hotel in St. Thomas, bringing together training providers, employers and federally funded workforce programs to connect Virgin Islanders with certification opportunities, job openings and career support.
Scheduled for April 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the expo is being presented as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the local workforce and expand access to career opportunities. According to the release, attendees will have direct access to certification programs and career pathways through providers including UVI Cell, Raphael O. Wheatley Skills Center, Med Certs and others.
The event will feature opportunities in several key industries. In healthcare, the listed programs include Certified Nursing Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician, Mental Health Technician and more. In construction and skilled trades, the expo will highlight plumbing, electrical technician, carpentry, auto mechanic, auto body repair, EV service and repair, and more. In business and information technology, offerings include CompTIA Tech+, Administrative Assistant, Professional Grant Writing and additional options.
The release also states that, through funding available under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, these programs may be offered at no cost to eligible participants. In addition to training opportunities, attendees will be able to connect directly with employers offering On-The-Job Training, explore immediate job openings and career pathways, learn how to enroll in WIOA-funded programs, and access free résumé assistance and career coaching.
The expo is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their résumés and come prepared to engage directly with employers and training providers.
The U.S. Virgin Islands WIOA Title I Adult and Dislocated Worker Program is 100 percent funded by the U.S. Department of Labor through awards totaling $1,321,339.
