Gov’t warns of entry-card fraud
A fraudulent website has been taking people’s money while falsely claiming to be the official government platform that travellers must use to provide information before entering the territory, according to the Department of Immigration.
The “Online ED Card” — which refers to “embarkation” and “disembarkation” — can be accessed only at the website bviedcard.gov.vg, the agency stated.
It added that there is no cost associated with obtaining an Online ED Card to enter the territory.
“Members of the public are being strongly urged not to provide personal information or make payments on any unauthorised websites claiming to facilitate entry into the territory, as doing so may expose them to fraud or identity theft,” the department warned. “Anyone who believes they may have interacted with a fraudulent website or made a payment is encouraged to report the matter immediately to their relevant banking institution.”
