The first two babies of 2025 were born a minute apart last Thursday at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital in Road Town, according to the BVI Health Services Authority.

At 12:10 p.m. the day after New Year’s Day, Rebecca Wohning and Oliver Scott welcomed their son James Scott, who weighed seven pounds and six ounces.

At 12:11 p.m., Shantel Caine and Seymore Cole celebrated the arrival of their daughter, who weighed seven pounds and half an ounce.

Each year, the National Bank of the Virgin Islands partners with the BVIHSA to present a gift basket to the first baby. Hakeem Gravesande, the bank’s marketing assistant, delivered the basket to baby James Scott.

Ms. Caine’s daughter also received a gift, which was presented by Nurse Manager Angela Rock and her team from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit.
