The US National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather bound for the Caribbean region, currently with a 20 per cent chance of development.

In an update Friday, the NHC said:

“For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

“1. Near the Lesser and Greater Antilles:

“An area of disturbed weather over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean is expected to interact with an approaching tropical wave during the next several days.

“Some development of this system will be possible while it approaches the Lesser Antilles during the early to middle part of next week and moves generally west-northwestward near the Greater Antilles toward the latter part of the week.”

The NHC said the chance of formation over the next 48 hours is low, near zero per cent, and low within the next seven days, at 20 per cent.

The public is urged to continue to monitor updates from weather agencies as the system develops.
