Anguilla Tourism Officials with Cape Air personnel
Cape Air, a Cape Cod Massachusetts-based airline which had serviced the Anguilla/St. Thomas route from 2021 to 2022 has now resumed airlift to Anguilla from the US Virgin Islands.
On Friday morning, March 8th 2024, the airline re-started air traffic between the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla and the Cyril E. King International Airport in St. Thomas, US. Virgin Islands.
In a brief re-induction ceremony at the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport, the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Transportation, Mr. Haydn Hughes welcomed back Cape Air as an essential means of travel between the two islands.
“We are happy that Cape Air has come back to our shores,” Minister Hughes said. “The relationship between Anguilla and St. Thomas is very deep. Much of the infrastructure in St. Thomas was built by the hands of Anguillians. And so, people have been calling for this flight between Anguilla and St. Thomas for a long time now. Well, you’ve called for this ‘flight’, the ‘flight’ is now here, so I would encourage you to use this ‘flight.”
Cape Air’s Vice President, Peter Farrell, said that on behalf of the company’s CEO, Linda Markham, and all of Cape Air’s employees in the US and the Caribbean, he wished to express how glad he was to be doing business in Anguilla once again. He said that with the airline resuming service between Anguilla and St. Thomas, it was expected that the company will enjoy longevity here, through the future.
Mr. Farrell also echoed the views of Minister Hughes, noting that Anguillians have lots of relatives in the Virgin Islands and they would like to have access to convenient travel services between the islands. In addition, he said that Cape Air is back to play its part in enhancing air access for Anguilla’s tourists as well.
He thanked all the stakeholders who had played a part in bringing the airline back.
“I want to thank persons like, Minister Haydn Hughes; the Airport’s CEO, Kendell Richardson; the Airport’s Manager, Jabari Harrigan; Director of Tourism, Stacy Liburd and the Anguilla Tourist Board officers; as well as Vida Lloyd-Richardson of the Chamber of Commerce and our local Cape Air team. I especially want to thank Rose Hodge,” he said. “She is our ambassador in Anguilla.”
Mrs. Hodge simply said that she welcomed Cape Air back into Anguilla. “I am happy to be a part of the airline’s return,” she said, “and I hope Cape Air is back to stay.”
Mr. Farrell also said that Cape Air had recently celebrated its 35th anniversary as an airline and its 26th anniversary serving the people of the Caribbean. The company operates a fleet of 100 aircraft, and its main model is the Cessna 402, but currently another exciting model, the Technam P2012, is being built for Cape Air in Italy.
As of now until March 30th the flight from Anguilla to St. Thomas will depart at 9:35 a.m. and arrive at 10:30 a.m. From March 31st to June 23rd, the flight from Anguilla will depart and 10:35 a.m. and arrive in St. Thomas at 11:30 a.m. Flights from St, Thomas to Anguilla up until June 23rd will depart St. Thomas 4:40 p.m. and arrive in Anguilla at 5:35 p.m.
