KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian troops will start a unilateral, seven-day cease-fire later Friday as a first step in efforts to de-escalate the conflict with pro-Russia separatists in the country’s east, the president said. President Petro Poroshenko made the announcement while speaking with residents in the town of Svyatogorsk in the Donetsk region, which has declared independence from his government in Kiev. “The forces of the anti-terrorist operation will halt military action starting today and through June 27,” Poroshenko was cited as saying by the Interior Ministry on its website.
