Trinidad-Born NY Businessman Funeral For New Jersey

News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Weds. April 15, 015: New York, Trinidad-born businessman and founder of Maracas NY Night Club and WIN Communications of Trinidad, Mohan Jaikaran, is set to be memorialized at a public viewing in New Jersey Friday.

Jaikaran, former vice-chairman of Caribbean Airlines, passed away at his home in Westmoorings,Trinidad on Sunday, April 12th. He was 68.

A public viewing is slated for 4 and 8 pm at the Quinn Hoppy & La Monica Funeral Home , 145 East Mount Pleasant Avenue in Livingston, New Jersey. His body will be cremated following the funeral.

A public viewing was held in Trinidad Tuesday at the Dass Funeral Home in Chaguanas.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and The Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MATT) as well as the Chaguanas Chamber of Commerce have all expressed condolences on Jaikaran’s death.
On the Maracas Club Facebook page, his wife, Indra Jaikaran, called for privacy.

“Two days ago, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one its most beautiful human beings ever lived. I am utterly heartbroken.

On behalf of Mohan’s family, we are asking for privacy during our grief,” she posted. “As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Mohan’s death, but on the countless moments of joy he gave to millions.”

Jaikaran immigrated to the United States in his late teens and learnt the fur garment trade before venturing out on his own. He later  introduced successive generations of North American and Caribbean audiences to emerging talents from the islands through his club in New York and later the successful International Soca Monarch franchise.

His Maracas nightclub is located in Queens, NY and in Trinidad. WINTV and affiliated radio station WIN RADIO 101 are located in Trinidad.

According to WIN TV’s General Manager, Sunil Ramdeen, Jaikaran’s legacy will never be lost.

“He has been a pioneer in terms of culture. He has affected culture particularly the Chutney and Indian industry in a really profound way.”

Jaikaran is survived by four children and his wife Indira.
