Queen Elizabeth II turns 96 today. Governor Martyn Roper, who is home recovering from COVID-19 went to social media to wish her the best for her special day.

The Cayman Islands will be officially celebrating the Queen’s birthday in June over a four-day Bank Holiday weekend that will celebrate her 70 year reign. The Friday holiday will be followed by the Queen’s Birthday public holiday on Monday, June 6, which will be brought forward by a week in 2022.

The celebrations include the public holiday on Friday, June 3 for Her Majesty’s historic Platinum Jubilee of accession to the throne. The Friday will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne and further enshrine her place in history as the longest reigning British monarch.

This is a title she has held since September 9 2015, when she overtook the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

According to reports from BBC, the Queen is celebrating her birthday in Sandringham, her Norfolk estate, where she travelled by helicopter and is being joined by family and friends.

She is expecting to be staying in a cottage that was liked by her late husband, Prince Philip.

A photograph has been released to mark the birthday, showing the Queen at Windsor Castle with two Fell ponies named Bybeck Nightingale and Bybeck Katie who will appear at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The image reflects her lifelong interest in horses.

“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!” reads the tweet. “An inspiration to so many across the UK, the Commonwealth and the world, it’s particularly special to be celebrating in this #PlatinumJubilee year,” read a Tweet from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Charles, the Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also sent a birthday message to the Queen.

“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a particularly special 96th birthday today, as we celebrate her Platinum Jubilee year,” the pair posted on Twitter.
