Hindu Caribbean Nationals To Celebrate Diwali


CaribWorldNews, QUEENS, NY, Thurs. Oct. 8, 2009: Hindu-born Caribbean nationals in New York are set to gather in Queens this weekend to mark the annual festival of Diwali.

In Richmond Hill, Queens, the Divya Jyoti Association will host the 10th Annual Diwali Motorcade on Saturday, October 10th at the Arya Spiritual Center Ground at 104-20 133rd Street in Richmond Hill, NY.

The parade will kick-off at the corner of Liberty and 133rd Street from 5 p.m. For more information call 917-685-5493.

Diwali or Deepavali is a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism and is largely known as the Festival of Lights. Hindus light diyas or cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil to signify the victory of good over the evil within an individual.
