News Americas, PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Mon. Mar. 21, 2011: Haitian voters are now awaiting the winner of their Presidential run-off election after yesterday returning to the poll for a second time in months to elect their next President.
Sunday’s election again saw missing or no ballots at some polling stations, dry ink at other and several disenfranchised voters but there was largely calm and no reports of violence.
Sunday’s election was a face-off between Kompas singer Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly and former first lady Mirlande Manigat. The winner will replace René Préval. Preliminary results are expected March 31 but the final results will not be announced until April 16.
The election took place two days after the return from exile of former President Jean Bertrand Aristide.
