News Americas, LONDON, England, Fri. June 6, 2014: Guyana-born broadcaster, Roger Moore, is dead.

According to his cousin, Alesis David-Thomas’ posting on Facebook, Moore passed away at 1:53 today, June 6, 2014.

He “died peacefully at home surrounded by his mother, brother, sisters, brother-in-law, sister-in-law niece and friend,” David-Thomas said.

Moore had been ailing for a while in the UK where he migrated after leaving HBTV Channel 9 Guyana. Moore became a household name in Guyana on the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation. He later became  known for his ‘Come Home to Roger’ and ‘At Home with Roger’ TV programs.

Outside of his broadcasting career, Moore also took on the job of social activist and used his TV shows to raise consciousness and address many of the ills in the Guyanese society.

Moore in his last posting on June 3rd said he had “listened to the tribute dedicated to myself and I was honored to be remembered this way.”

He thanked his mother Olga and brother Edward at the time as well as sisters Deborah and Alison along with former GBC staffers, Pat Cameron, Margaret Lawrence, Phyllis Jackson, Ava Brewster, and the late Terry Holder.

“I have no regrets. I did it my way.I love you all,” he wrote, while noting he was “transitioning.”

“The first person I expect to see (on the other side) is Old man Duncan Moore, who along with my mother, Olga Moore, laid the foundation of my living and education,” he added. “I will tell dad what I was doing, Next I will chat with Desmond Hoyte and Clem David and hold a conference about what is happening in Guyana.”
