The Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) held its first graduation ceremony for Class 01 of its Maritime Weapons & Tactics Course.

It took place on May 5.

Having completed 6 weeks of intensive maritime weapons and tactics training, under the guidance and supervision of instructors from the Caribbean Special Tactics Centre (CSTC), which is a component of the Jamaica Defence Forces (JDF) Caribbean Military Academy (CMA), the CICG now have a team of officers who have been professionally trained and equipped to address the various threats posed to them by persons engaged in illicit maritime activity, either inside or outside of our territorial waters.

In recognition of the long-standing relationship between the JDF and the CICG, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, Rear Admiral Antonette Wemyss- Gorman was invited to take part in the graduation ceremony as the guest of honour.

Also, in attendance were Governor Martyn Roper, Premier Wayne Panton, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, Deputy Premier Christopher Saunders, and Minister of Home Affairs Sabrina Turner.
