Cayman Islands based dog charity One Dog At A Time (ODAAT) is making an appeal to residents of Cayman to adopt-don’t-shop, and please, please help out ODAAT in any way that you can!

The mission of ODAAT is to prevent dogs and puppies from being euthanized at the Department Of Agriculture pound by finding them new forever homes. ODAAT has rescue partners in the US and Canada and are always needing foster homes to allow them to do the work that they do.

This weekend the ODAAT team added seven newborn pups with no mother to their rapidly growing list of rescues. This brought the total count of puppies, ages 2.5 to 7 weeks under the charity’s care to 19, as well as one older pup and seven adults– a total of 27 dogs.

With the increase in canine headcount under their care, ODAAT has been running low on resources. Luckily, Animal House pet store was kind enough to open its doors on Sunday and provide some free bottles and formula to the newborn orphans but with the number of mouths to feed, this will only go so far.

“The March vet bills are in and we have just over $5000 to pay due to the increase in the number of animals we are dealing with,” says CJ Johnson of ODAAT. “This is before we take into account the new puppies. All our funding comes from our supporters. Without them we can’t help the dogs and puppies that need us! If you are able to help we thank you in advance.”

The team at ODAAT has also specified that they are desperately in need of the following:

– Puppy pads
– Puppy food dry and wet
– Cash into vets to help cover vet cost
– A volunteer to help get the thrift shop set up, by putting up shelves, rails and getting A/C runnning
– Fosters and adopters

For those who are interested, please buy your ODAAT Easter raffle tickets for $5 each. They are available at various locations on island and direct from ODAAT. Also if you are a business owner who can donate a prize please let the team at ODAAT know.
