There are 783 estimated active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands representing 1.1 per cent of the population. This is an overnight increase of 81 cases since the last report.

Loop Cayman reported earlier today that there has been an increase in positive case results on island, with a 31 per cent increase, from 284 between April 3 to 9 to 373 positive cases between April 10 and 16.

This trend has has continued with numbers released from Public Health on the evening of April 21, that reveal 88 new cases on April 19 and 89 new cases on April 20.

The 7-day rolling average for April 21 is 60, up from 56 on April 20.

According to Public Health, there are strong indications that the increase in cases, which started in mid-March, appears to be linked to gathering events, where no COVID-19 prevention measures were properly implemented, especially the wearing of masks.

Overnight, the Sister Islands reported one new case, leaving total cases since the beginning of the pandemic at 690.
