The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) reported that, at about 4:00pm on June 20, officers responded to a report of a missing person in East End. The searches ended in the evening of June 20 but resumed on the morning of June 21. Around 8am on June 21, the missing person, a man, aged 54, was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead.

According to the RCIPS, the man had gone out snorkeling on June 20 in the waters in the vicinity of the Wyndham Reef Resort, off Austin Connolly Drive. In addition, members of the public assisted with the shoreline searches, while visiting members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution assisted the Coast Guard with searches at sea and the overall coordination of search efforts.

Shortly before 8:00am on June 21, the man was found unresponsive on the shore off the Queen’s Highway in East End. Emergency services attended the location and he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The matter is under investigation.
